Lonza is continuing its commitment to fostering the next generation of scientists by supporting transportation for school classes in Valais to visit MINTworld in Visp, with the aim of sparking students’ interest in STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics). Starting this school year, all schools in the canton can benefit from free round-trip train tickets with SBB to visit MINTworld during the 2025/26 academic year.
A proven success
During the pilot phase, more than 1,500 students took part in the initiative and traveled free of charge by train to attend MINTworld workshops, thanks to the support of BioArk Visp and Lonza. Encouraged by the enthusiasm of both teachers and pupils, transportation costs will once again be covered for the coming school year, with Lonza renewing its support to make these visits possible.
MINTworld: hands-on science and discovery
Opened in March 2023, MINTworld is a unique 1,000 m² discovery space located at the BioArk technological park in Visp. Through engaging and practical workshops, students from grades 6 to 10 (HarmoS) can dive into mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and technology.
Examples of activities include:
- programming robots to solve navigation problems
- experimenting with chemical reactions to understand fundamental
principles such as density and miscibility

Each workshop is guided by experts and supported with modern equipment, turning learning into an immersive and inspiring adventure toward future careers. Beyond school workshops, MINTworld also offers leisure courses, team-building activities, and continuing education programs for teachers.
Practical information
- Classes can register directly via the MINTworld website.
- A download link will provide free round-trip SBB train tickets.
- Tickets are reserved for school groups registered for a workshop,

A strong commitment to the future
This initiative reflects the close involvement of both BioArk Visp AG and Lonza in strengthening STEM education opportunities in Valais. By renewing the financial support for transportation, Lonza ensures that even more pupils across the canton can experience hands-on science and be inspired by future career paths in technology and research.
