How can we encourage more young people to take an interest in science, technology and engineering? How can we help them discover the professions and opportunities these fields offer?
These questions led BioArk Visp AG, the Canton of Valais and Lonza to create MINTworld, a hands-on learning centre dedicated to STEM subjects (science, technology, engineering and mathematics).
Located at the BioArk Tech Park in Visp, MINTworld Visp offers pupils, teachers and visitors the opportunity to discover science and technology through experimentation, observation and practical activities.
Supporting science education in Valais
BioArk’s mission is to support innovation and strengthen the development of technology-driven sectors in Valais. This also means helping to build connections between education, research and industry.
With MINTworld Visp, BioArk contributes to raising awareness of STEM disciplines and helping young people better understand the scientific and technological world around them. By offering engaging and accessible experiences, the centre helps spark curiosity and encourages pupils to explore new areas of interest.
This work is particularly important as many sectors in Valais and across Switzerland are facing a growing need for qualified professionals in science, technology and engineering.
Learning through experimentation
At MINTworld, learning takes place through experience.
Participants can programme robots, conduct chemistry experiments, explore DNA, discover the microscopic world or take part in engineering challenges designed to stimulate curiosity and problem-solving skills.
By encouraging active participation, MINTworld helps make science more accessible and shows how concepts learned in the classroom can be applied in real-life situations.
A centre open to the whole canton
Since opening its doors, MINTworld Visp has welcomed school classes and visitors from across Valais. Activities are offered in both French and German, ensuring broad access to STEM education throughout the canton.
Today, MINTworld plays an important role in promoting science and technology among young people and complements the wider efforts being made to strengthen education, innovation and economic development in the region.
A unique opportunity for schools
This autumn, the first 1,000 pupils registered for a MINTworld workshop can benefit from free travel to and from Visp thanks to complimentary SBB group tickets.
Participating classes receive all the information required to book their free group tickets after registering for a workshop.
Important information
- The offer is reserved for school classes registered for a MINTworld Visp workshop.
- Free tickets are valid exclusively for travel to and from MINTworld Visp.
- Ticket requests must be submitted at least 10 working days before the visit.
- Tickets can be requested up to 60 days before the workshop date.
Explore. Experiment. Imagine.
MINTworld will also take part in BioArk’s exhibition “Explore. Experiment. Imagine.” during the Foire du Valais.
Visitors will have the opportunity to discover STEM disciplines through interactive demonstrations and hands-on activities, while meeting some of the organisations working to promote science, technology and innovation in Valais.
Because interest in science often begins with a simple question, MINTworld Visp provides a place where curiosity can be explored, tested and developed.
