The HES-SO Valais-Wallis has introduced an innovative Digital Life Sciences program, the first of its kind in French-speaking Switzerland. This cutting-edge degree offers specialized training in biological data analysis and the application of artificial intelligence, preparing students to meet the evolving needs of the life sciences industry

François Seppey, Director of the HES-SO Valais-Wallis, emphasized that this new specialization aligns with the Canton of Valais’s strategic objectives, reinforcing its leadership in chemistry and biotechnology. “Valais industrial companies, like Lonza, operate in a highly competitive environment where digital innovation is essential to success,” Seppey noted

Major industry players such as Lonza, Novartis, and Nestlé are increasingly investing in digitalization and artificial intelligence. Renzo Cicillini, site manager of Lonza Visp, highlighted the importance of this program at a press conference: “Lonza is the largest contract drug manufacturer in the world. It is essential for us to be at the forefront of automation, digitalization, and AI.

Cicillini further emphasized the need for hybrid professionals with strong life sciences expertise and advanced digital skills. He expressed enthusiasm for this local educational initiative, stating, “As a high-tech institution, we are pleased to have high-tech training available locally, which allows us to recruit well-trained young talent in Valais.
