The Monthey-based biotechnology company has moved up 27 places in the national ranking. Its progress reflects a year focused on the industrialisation and market launch of SW1NGO, a single-use bioreactor-incubator designed to simplify cell expansion.
Corintis SA won first place at the Top 100 Swiss Startup Award 2026, held on 9 September 2026. The Lausanne-based company ranked ahead of DeepJudge and Pave Space.
For Bioscibex, the 2026 edition also marks a significant progression. The company ranked 54th nationally, moving up 27 places from 81st position in 2025.
Based at BioArk in Monthey and supported by The Ark Foundation, Bioscibex is developing equipment for biopharmaceutical manufacturing. Its main system, SW1NGO, addresses a demanding stage of biologics production: expanding cells from small initial volumes to pilot scale.
Cell expansion from 30 mL to 30 L
Cell expansion traditionally requires several successive culture vessels and repeated manual transfers. These operations take time and can increase the risk of contamination.
SW1NGO is designed to support cell expansion from 30 mL to 30 L within a single-use bag. By reducing the number of intermediate steps, the system aims to simplify operations, limit open handling and facilitate the transition between development and manufacturing scales.
The equipment integrates pH, dissolved oxygen and cell-density measurements. It is also designed for connection to external production supervision systems, an important consideration when introducing new equipment into biopharmaceutical environments.
From technical validation to market deployment
Bioscibex moved from EPFL to BioArk in Monthey in 2025, after validating its proof of concept and developing its first minimum viable systems. This next phase focused on industrial-scale demonstrations, the industrialisation of the equipment and its consumables, and preparation for commercial deployment.
In 2026, the company launched SW1NGO and shipped its first bioreactor-incubators. Its progression in the Top 100 comes as the technology moves from development toward use with biopharmaceutical partners.
The Monthey location places Bioscibex within a Life Sciences environment connected to specialised infrastructure, industrial expertise and companies working across biotechnology and pharmaceutical production.
Four Valais startups in the 2026 ranking
Bioscibex is one of four Valais companies included in this year’s Top 100, alongside Divea, Evolium Technologies and WattAnyWhere. All four receive development support from The Ark Foundation.
With these four companies, Valais ranks fifth among Swiss cantons represented in the 2026 selection, behind Zurich, Vaud, Geneva and Basel-City, and level with Fribourg.
Organised by Venturelab since 2011, the Top 100 Swiss Startup Award is based on the votes of 100 investors and startup specialists. The ranking recognises Swiss companies under five years old with strong innovation and commercial potential.
