The Valais region has positioned itself as a center of excellence for education and training in the life sciences, offering a complete value chain that extends from scientific awareness for the very young to continuing education for professionals.
Scientific Awakening




The MINTworld initiative in Visp, a collaborative effort by Lonza Visp, the Canton of Valais, and BioArk Visp AG, offers young people a 1’000 m² space dedicated to the exploration of mathematics, computing, science and technology.
To help solve the future shortage of labour in these fields, fun and educational activities are organised to stimulate pupils’ interest from an early age.

SECONDARY AND PRE-UNIVERSITY EDUCATION
EPFL Valais/Wallis is developing new in-school and out-of-school activities in the STEM fields, promoting an active and fun approach to teaching Specific programs for girls, such as the Girls' Coding Club, are offered to encourage their participation in MINT fields.
The PiBS (Programme Intégrant la Pratique) program gives high school graduates direct access to training in biotechnology, alternating between study and employment at Lonza.
SPECIALIZED VOCATIONAL TRAINING
The École Professionnelle Intercantonale de la Chimie (EPIC) in Monthey, created in 2017, trains professionals in the chemical industry, with courses in laboratory technician, chemical production technologist and pharmaceutics.
The Berufsfachschule Oberwallis in Visp offers vocational training in the fields of technology, chemistry and health, welcoming around 2,200 learners in 56 different professions.
The Article 32 training program by Educarre allows adults with professional experience to obtain a Federal VET Diploma as a Chemical and Pharmaceutical Process Technologist without an apprenticeship contract.
HIGHER EDUCATION
The HES-SO Valais-Wallis offers a Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences Engineering with four orientations, including the innovative Digital Life Sciences. This program integrates artificial intelligence as a strategic skill, revolutionizing life sciences training. Taught in three languages, it prepares students for international careers.
TRAINING AND SPECIALISATION
A strategic partnership between the HES-SO Valais-Wallis and Lonza offers continuing education courses for employees of the chemical and pharmaceutical group.
Training units in automation, scale-up and industrial-scale production are offered, enabling students to immerse themselves in Lonza's practical work.
